Farm Accountant
Our client in the Agricultural sector seeks to hire for the role of a Farm Accountant.
Qualifications:
- HND/BSC in accounting, finance, agricultural economics, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in the agriculture or agribusiness sector.
- Knowledge of agricultural practices, crop production cycles, and farm management principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic agricultural environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and maintaining accurate financial records for farm operations, including income, expenses, and inventory.
- Monitor cash flow, budget variances, and financial performance against targets.
- Preparing financial reports and statements for management review and decision-making.
- Analyzing production costs, including labor, materials, and overheads, to identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
- Implementing cost control measures to optimize farm profitability while maintaining quality and productivity standards.
- Conducting regular cost-benefit analyses of farming activities and investments.
- Overseeing inventory tracking and management systems for agricultural inputs, supplies, and harvested crops.
- Coordinating with procurement and production teams to maintain optimal inventory levels and minimize wastage.
- Preparing and submitting tax returns, government reports, and regulatory filings as required.
- Collaborating with external auditors and regulatory agencies during audits and inspections.
- Assisting in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts for farm operations.
- Conducting financial analysis and scenario modeling to support strategic decision-making and business planning.
- Providing financial insights and recommendations to management based on analysis of key performance indicators.
- Tracking and analyzing farm performance metrics, such as yield per hectare, cost per unit of production, and profitability by crop or product.
- Identifying trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement in farm operations.
- Working closely with farm managers and agronomists to implement corrective actions and optimize farm performance.
- Evaluating and recommending technology solutions to streamline farm accounting processes, enhance data accuracy, and improve operational efficiency.
- Stay updated on emerging trends and best practices in farm management software, agricultural finance, and agribusiness innovation.
