Our client, a reputable leader in the manufacturing sector, is seeking to hire a Group Head, HSE. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) function across multiple manufacturing locations across West Africa.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 15 years progressive HSE experience, with at least 7 years in senior leadership roles within the manufacturing sector.

  • Strong knowledge of HSE legislation and compliance requirements in West Africa

  • Proven experience in managing HSE teams across multiple sites or regions.

  • Recognized HSE certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, etc.) are required.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence, engage, and drive cultural change at all organizational levels.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to risk management.

  • Willingness to travel regularly across operational sites or region.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and oversee the HSE teams across all group locations, ensuring alignment with global and regional standards.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive HSE strategies, policies, and procedures to drive a strong safety culture across the organization.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant HSE legislation, regulations, and industry standards across West Africa region.

  • Establish proactive risk management systems to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards and environmental risks.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on HSE performance, ensuring timely communication of incidents, investigations, and corrective actions.

  • Champion HSE training, awareness, and competency development programs across all employee levels.

  • Foster collaboration with line managers and senior leadership to integrate HSE practices into core business operations.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety performance, environmental sustainability, and occupational health.

  • Represent the organization in external HSE audits, regulatory inspections, and industry forums.

  • Lead emergency preparedness, crisis management, and business continuity planning.
